The Village of Lancaster is in the south part of the Town Of Lancaster and is east of Buffalo, New York . HISTORY The Village of Lancaster was incorporated in 1849 from part of the Town of Lancaster. The village is proud of its historic past and emphasizes preservation of its historic buildings. Lancaster was formerly known as "Cayuga Creek." GEOGRAPHY Lancaster is located at 42°54'1" North, 78°40'22" West (42.900408, -78.67303). According to the United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 7.0 Km&2 (2.7 Mi&2 ). 7.0 km&2 (2.7 mi&2) of it is land and 0.1 km&2 (0.04 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 1.10% water. The village is located on Cayuga Creek . DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 11,188 people, 4,726 households, and 2,958 families residing in the village. The Population Density was 1,605.8/km&2 (4,155.0/mi&2). There were 4,908 housing units at an average density of 704.5/km&2 (1,822.7/mi&2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.62% White , 0.32% Black or African American , 0.26% Native American , 0.13% Asian , 0.01% Pacific Islander , 0.18% from Other Races , and 0.47% from two or more races. 0.81% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 4,726 households out of which 27.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% were Married Couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.4% were non-families. 32.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.99. In the village the population was spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 91.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.9 males. The median income for a household in the village was $40,149, and the median income for a family was $53,514. Males had a median income of $39,772 versus $25,839 for females. The Per Capita Income for the village was $20,308. 5.1% of the population and 3.1% of families were below the Poverty Line . 4.4% of those under the age of 18 and 8.7% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
