Information About

Kings Of Chaos

Kings of Chaos is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game . It was created by four students at Thomas Jefferson High School For Science And Technology in December of 2002 as a Web -programming exercise. Within days, hundreds of players had signed up and the mundane for-fun endeavor was suddenly transformed into a very popular text based game.

Play is segmented into ages, which do not have a set length but so far have lasted for about six months. Age 1 launched in early January of 2003 , and Age 2 launched in late August the same year. Age 2 ended February 2004 , and was followed by a public beta of Age 3. The full version of Age 3 was launched on July 15 , and Age 4 began on February 21 , 2005 . The fifth age was launched on October 9 , 2005 .

The game features characters from four races: Human s, Elves , Orc s, and Dwarves . Players gain strength and gold by recruiting friends into their army through the use of a special unique recruiting Link issued to each player.

Players can attack, spy and sabotage other players, inflict casualties and steal gold from their opponents. Players are ranked hourly according to their various strengths (Strike Action, Defense Action, Spy Rating and Sentry Rating).

The gameplay is simple enough that during Age 3 many bots started to appear, which raked the pages for information and played the game without any human interaction. As a result, for Age 4 the creators have put in Captcha s in front of some actions. Many clans of the game adopted the strategy of using "Recruiters", which enable players to click up to several thousand (depending on the recruiter used) unique links of other players. Each click given adds a "click credit", and each click on the user's own unique link removes one credit. Towards the beginning of an age the total number of users on a popular recruiter can go above 3500, but towards the end of the age it drops down to around 1000.

The game is free and supported by advertising. An article in the Washington Post on December 24 , 2004 discussed the everyday lives of the four creators, three of whom currently attend the Massachusetts Institute Of Technology (Rocco, Ben, and Nick), and a fourth who attends George Mason University (Aman).

Age winners and end-games:

AGE WINNERS

Original Beta winner: Alfanje

Age 1 winner: Lovirath (aka DN_Loviaroth, Loviaroth_cl, Lovi)
Inktank, the player believed most likely to win the age, allowed Loviaroth to pass him, and finish rank 1. Inktank left KoC, and his alliance shrank considerably, and effectively disappearing as an alliance in Age 2. Loviaroth's alliance, Relentless, soon became recognized as the most powerful alliance of the era.

Noteworthy alliance facts: The most famous war of this age was "The Great Alliance" vs. "New Orc Order" and their respective allies. Other prominent early alliances included Intank Army, and Relentless. Currently, the only alliance of these still existing continuously is Relentless, though it has changed greatly, and is now known as "Relentless Family." The Rising Alliance, a smaller alliance, has claim to being one of the oldest surviving alliances, as it was founded in early 2003. New Orc Order was revived in mid-Age 5 not by its founder, Wersus, but by the long time leader Errtu, though it had been disbanded for approximately a year.

Age 2 Beta winner: fury

Noteworthy alliance facts: The Age 2 Beta was private, and relatively small. Most of the players who were invited to participate just 'happened to be on IRC .' One noteworthy event was the establishment of The Nameless Alliance, an alliance originally consisting exclusively of Age 2 Beta testers. This alliance became an ally of Relentless, and often held more than half of the top 50 ranks (page 1) during Age 2. It eventually merged into/became Phoenix Rising (PR) depending on your point of view. The alliance's trademark was a secret member's list, along with private forums and IRC channel.

Age 2 winner: Orc00.
One week before the end of the age, Relentless lead a legendary 'mass attack' on LordStriker. LordStriker, or LS, held the #1 rank for longer than any other player in Age 2, and held the position until the final 1-2 days of the age. The attacks were officially triggered by 'The KyraKyle Incident,' in which LordStriker asked his alliance, Striker Clan, to mass attack a former leader, KyraKyle. Relentless and Striker Clan were allies throughout Age 2, and KyraKyle was a member of both alliances. Once the attacks on KyraKyle began, she asked Relentless for assistance. Relentless quickly agreed and began mass attacking LordStriker, along with dozens of smaller alliances. Though Relentless was unpopular in some circles, LordStriker became infamous as 'the player you love to hate.' Some claim that Orc00 of Relentless would have outranked LordStriker regardless of the attacks, as the army sizes of LordStriker and Orc00 were not widely separated, and Orc00 had to take a strategy of untraining soldiers, so that they could hold both attack and defense weapons. Relentless sources claim Orc00 could be expected to receive far more sell-offs (when one player sells weapons and allows an ally to attack) than LordStriker, which seems likely.

Age 3 winner: Denny_PR
During Age 3, cLickwhORe, a multi-window clicking program for the Phoenix Rising recruiter, was released to all members of the Phoenix Rising command chain. Many chains joined the chain, and chain leader Denny was able to reach an army size of over eight million, the record size to date.

Age 4 winner: LordStriker.
LordStriker was able to remain at the number 1 spot for the entirety of the age. With cLickwhORe open to all KoC players and other multi-window recruiters present, Phoenix Rising lost its advantage from Age 3, and took the second spot of the age.

Age 5: In Age 5, Lor20_PR, a member of Phoenix Rising, held the number one spot for a few months before Graahoeje of Lord Galdor's Clan claimed it. Even with his 1,000,000 soldier lead on Lor20_PR, sell-offs are likely to determine the winner of the age.

In Age 5, bots have taken over Kings of Chaos once again. They are everywhere and sell-offs are being intercepted like crazy. Many players have been accused of cheating, and several of them have been banned by the admins for doing so. Not nearly enough though.

Striker Clan fell after the end of Age 4, caused mainly by high-ranking officers of LordStriker. Phoenix Rising still remains strong, as does Relentless Family. Other noteworthy alliances are FearlessForce, lead by CPH_KILL; TUA (the-untouchables) lead by CYBERNARDO a new alliance that grew strong in age 4 and 5, Lord Galdor's Clan, presently lead by Graahoeje; and ES, lead by t0msky. Snake_Bonzai, the leader of Dedicated Elite Soldiers (formally known as the Dutch Elite Soldiers), has the eighth largest army in the game and could possibly take the #5 spot from Phoenix Rising's GoddessLaura-, founder of The Silv3r Hawks alliance. Relentless Family remains in KoC as a strong competitor for a top position in the ranks, with many well known players.
