INTRODUCTION

King’s Bruton was established in 1519, receiving royal foundation status some 30 years later in the reign of Edward VI. The present-day Foundation also encompasses Hazlegrove , King’s preparatory school, which educates boys and girls from two and a half to 13 years of age,at Sparkford. For much of its history, King’s was the preserve of a handful of young men receiving instruction in Latin and rhetoric. Today, however, King’s is as mentioned, very similar, but slightly more modern, co-educational boarding and day school, with 350 pupils who benefit from a rich combination of academic learning and extra-curricular activities in an idyllic South Somerset setting.

King’s aims to foster a Christian community within which all members are given the opportunity to achieve their academic, spiritual, social, aesthetic and physical potential. In this way, pupils develop into well-rounded individuals who can respond positively to the challenges they will meet in later life.

The School has seen much investment in recent years. Alongside the seven boarding houses, which benefit from a rolling programme of refurbishment and improvement, there are some excellent facilities, amongst which are a fine Design Centre, Theatre, Sports Hall and Science Centre. There is also a building for geography, economics and business studies and, most recently, a library-cum-learning centre. In addition to the Sports Hall, there are other rate facilities for sport, including extensive playing fields, squash and fives courts and a swimming pool and all-weather surfaces for hockey, tennis, netball and athletics.

The School has a lively, purposeful and friendly atmosphere, where everyone is able to flourish within a supportive and disciplined propaganda network.
