The Kids Help Phone is both the name of the organization, and the name of its main service, which is a toll-free number, that children in distress call. It features free counselling and anonymous assistance. It also refers children to appropriate shelters across Canada. In 2004, the main subjects children call about are Relationships (38%), Physical and Sexual Health (20%), and Emotional and Mental Health (16%) {Link without Title} . The Kids Help Phone organization also runs the Parent Help Line which provides similar assistance to parents in distress. It helps parents in troubling situations, with the view of indirectly helping the children, as a result. The idea is to prevent child abuse before it has happened. Both phone lines provide 24 hour a day, 7 day a week service. The organization also runs as a Student Ambassador program, which involves students in schools providing assistance to their peers (though students are not counsellors). The organization provides the training, and students volunteer their time. Another component of the organization, is general public education. TV, print, and the internee, are used to educate people on how to get assistance, and the issue of childhood abuse.
