Information About

Kensington, Gauteng

Kensington is laid out over the slopes of several ''koppies'' (flat-topped, high-sided hills) that run along the south side of Bezuidenhout ("Bez") Valley. The streets were laid out in 1903, and were heavily planted with trees, which give the area a distinctive, wooded appearance. Notable features of the suburb include Rhodes Park, named after Cecil Rhodes ; the Jeppe Boys' and Girls' High Schools, and the immense Eastgate Shopping Centre . On Kensington's periphery lies Bruma Lake, a boating lake with a well-known Flea Market selling tourist souvenirs from across Africa .
