Following the death of King Brion in Magic al battle against the Pretender Charissa , Kelson was invested with the Haldane magical ability by the Deryni Alaric Morgan , Duke of Corwyn . King Kelson defeated Charissa and killed her in the succeeding battle. In 1121, Kelson met King Wencit Of Torenth in magical battle, and was succeesful in killing the Torenthi King. With the death of the last ruler of the House of Furstán Tamásy, the Kingship of Torenth went into abeyance, and Kelson claimed the throne of Torenth in his own right.

In 1123, Kelson was forced to deal with yet again a rebellion in Meara , and captured the rebellious lords, executing all but the Mearan Pretender, Princess Caitrin, whom he sent to a Nunnery .

In 1125, while on an expedition to find the remains of Saint Camber , the King fell into a stream and was swept into an underground cavern. After more than a month's absence, the King returned to Valoret , where he discovered that his cousin, Prince Conall Haldane , had claimed the throne, even though his father, Duke Nigel , was still alive, and still proclaimed allegiance to King Kelson. Kelson defeated Conall in a magical battle to regain his throne.
