Catherine Anne Bosworth (born January 2 1983 ), better known as '''Kate Bosworth''', is an American Actress . She is perhaps best known for her roles in the films '' Blue Crush '', '' Win A Date With Tad Hamilton! '', and her upcoming turn as Lois Lane in '' Superman Returns ''. BIOGRAPHY Early life Bosworth was born in Los Angeles , California to Hal Bosworth (an executive for Talbot ) and Patricia Potter (a Homemaker ); she grew up mainly on the East Coast , after leaving San Francisco at the age of 6, spending the rest of her youth in New Canaan, Connecticut and Cohasset, Massachusetts . She was born with Heterochromia , which resulted in the iris of her right eye having two different colors: hazel and blue. While in High School , Bosworth learned to speak Spanish and was a member of the National Honor Society ; she played varsity soccer and Lacrosse . Career Bosworth's first film role came after an open casting call in New York for the supporting part of "Judith" in the 1998 film, '' The Horse Whisperer ''. Bosworth, at the time fourteen and a champion Equestrian , successfully auditioned for the role. Subsequently, she appeared in a few minor film roles, including '' Remember The Titans '' in 2000 . In 2005 , Bosworth was cast as reporter Lois Lane in the new Superman movie, '' Superman Returns ''. The film is currently scheduled for release on June 30 , 2006 . Personal life Bosworth was admitted to Princeton University in 2000, but continues to defer her attendance. She is also a member of the Appalachia Service Project .
