Kananook (station code: KAN) is an unmanned railway station on the Frankston line in Melbourne , Australia , opened in 1975 . It has one central island platform with a substantial fibro building. It is located in Metcard ticketing Zone 3. The station has a reputation as being notoriously unsafe, especially after dark. The station may be considered one of the more unsightly on the suburban network, with large concrete overpasses, and located next to a major noisy freeway. Current plans as part of the construction of the Eastlink road project linking the north-eastern suburb of Ringwood to Frankston , involve funding for facility boosts at a number of stations, including Kananook. This will involve the dismantling of the current station building, noise protection from the freeway, and other improvements. The station was featured in the first episode of the Australian TV series Sensing Murder , which aired on Network Ten in September 2004 . DISAPPEARANCE Sarah MacDiarmid disappeared from Kananook Station on July 11 1990 last seen walking to the station carpark. EXTERNAL LINKS
