The Kamakhya Temple is a Hindu temple on the Nilachal Hill on the south bank of the Brahmaputra , about five kilometres from Guwahati . The temple is considered to be one of the famous '' Pithasthan s'' (sacred places) of India . During the Ambubashi Festival , which occurs during the Monsoon period, there is a great rush of pilgrims to Kamakhya from all over the country. The Temple is famous as the centre of Shakti worship. A road winds its way up the Temple. From the top of the Hill, a panoramic view of Guwahati and Brahmaputra can be gained. Its not five km from the city. The foot of the hill could be 5 km from the city centre. But from thet point to the temple is another 4 km |
