Kamacuras (カマキラス - ''Kamakirasu''), or '''Gimantis''' (a cross between "giant" and "mantis") or "Kamakiras" as some fans call him, is a large mutant Praying Mantis from the Godzilla series, debuting in the film '' Son Of Godzilla '' ( 1967 ). The monster is named after the Japanese word for "praying mantis" (螳螂 - ''kamakiri''). A race of human-sized mantes residing on Sogell Island , the Kamacuras were ballooned to giant size when a weather experiment went horribly wrong, resulting in a radioactive storm. The Kamacuras soon uncovered a gigantic egg, and immediately began to break it open. They eventually broke through its shell, spilling out a small reptile. This creature was actually Minya , whose cries attracted Godzilla. Godzilla soon made short work of the Kamacuras, seemingly killing all but one. This final Kamacuras battled Minya later on, but was again driven off by Godzilla. It later encountered Kumonga , but was easily overpowered by the massive spider. He was apparently killed by Kumonga's poisonous stinger, but at least one Kamacuras survived and ended up as an inmate on Monster Island . '' featured a refined Kamacuras.]] Over thirty years later, Kamacuras returned to the screen in '''' ( 2004 ). As a part of the Xilian invasion, Kamacuras attacked Paris and France , and battled the mighty battleship Eclair. He was eventually teleported away by the Xilians as a ruse, but once their true colors were discovered, Kamacuras was returned to Paris to finish his rampage. When Godzilla awoke, Kamacuras was sent to Kanto , Japan to fight him. The fight didn't last long; Kamacuras rocketed towards Godzilla, but the reptile quickly grabbed the mantis and tossed him away, impaling Kamacuras on a high-tension tower. This new Kamacuras also had a Chameleon -like power of blending with his surroundings. VITAL STATISTICS Original/Showa
