Kakigori




Popular flavors include: Strawberry , Lemon , Green Tea , Grape , Melon , blue-hawaii and colorless syrup. Some shops provide colorfull one by using two or more different syrups and called rainbow. To sweeten those ''Kakigōri'', Condensed Milk is often poured on top of it. It is similar to a Snow Cone but it has a slightly finer consistency and a spoon is almost always used. The traditional way of making it involves using a hand cranked machine to spin a block of ice over a razor blade shaver. These days electric machines are often used though street vendors with the hand crank machine are still exist in the summer. Many Japanese home have personal shaver to make ''Kakigōri'' in own home.

Food stalls on Festival s, Convenience Store s, coffee shops, restaurants; during the hot summer months Kakigōri is sold virtually everywhere in Japan. Some coffee shops serve it with Ice Cream and sweet bean paste. It is so popular, convenience stores sell it already flavored and packaged similar to ice cream.
