Information AboutKairi (band) |
|
HISTORY Kairi was created by Rob Parker, it was originally an ambient keyboard project that developed into an ambient Doom Metal project. Rob Parker names his influnces as the bands Skeptisim , Until Death Overtakes Me , Opeth and My Dying Bride . Rob Parker is a classically trained pianist and singer, and is involved in several musical projects. He formally was a keyboard player in the band Jennifer's Parents, but composition was always his main musical interest. Parker is also involved in a Noise project called "The Entity" and many other musical projects locally. Kairi's sound can be considered very ambient, with guitars taking second place to the atmosperic vocals and keyboard sounds. The sound is thus very dark, slow and deep. The lyrics tend to deal with issues such as Love , Fear and the meaning of life in the vein of many other funeral Doom Metal bands. Recently they have built upon this sound by introducing solo instruments such as Flutes, in the vein of early My Dying Bride Kairi's first work was the album ''The Pain Of Waking'', It was written earlier and recorded onto CD in 2003, it was entirly played on keyboards. Parker describes this CD as a ''minimalistic ambient solo project'', It was his own project before the current line-up was formed. He has also commented on possible plans to remake this debut later in 2005, fitting it into the Kairi sound the band now play. Kairi's first release as a duo came in 2004, it was a short demo that remained untitled. The Duo consisted of Rob Parker handleing the music and Leon Prothero on lead vocals. It included heavy guitar work, and thus was the band's first Doom Metal work. The band followed this up with their first full length work as a band, ''Kairi'' was recorded as a demo in early 2005. It was written over the course of a year, and Parker has already mentioned that a few of the tracks may be re-recorded over the coming months for a future main release. Kairi followed up this album with 2 short promo EP's. The first was titled ''My Light, My Flesh'', the EP was unique as it was entirly improvised in the middle of the night, based on a melody previously unused. It features the title song split into two parts. The second EP was titled ''All Of My Dreams'', again it featured the title track split into two parts. This EP was the first recording to feature Jeremy Middleton on the Bass. The EP was by far the most guitar driven music the band had made. Recently the band have been signed to Endless Desperation records based in Russia . The band plans to remake the EP ''All Of My Dreams'' with an extra 30 minutes of new material added to a remake of the original promo EP. This will be released after their debut album entitled "My Light, My Flesh" which is based on the original two part demo made previously, only fleshed out to contain five parts, all new and re-recorded.
