Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are the brain child of the then human resources minister P. V. Narasimha Rao (who later became Prime Minister of India) to find and foster the rural talent in India. These are schools established in every district and are often described as islands of excellence in the ocean of mediocre Indian educational system. Navodaya Vidyalayas offer free education to the students who are selected through an entrance test conducted at district level all over India. There 509 navodayas all over India. For more information {Link without Title} ADMISSION PROCEDURE The best and brilliant students from each district are selected through an entrance exam conducted every year and are given admission to 6th standard/class. This students are given free accommodation, food and clothing facilities and are allowed to continue their studies till class 12. All the expenses are born by Central Government of India. Main aim of this institute was always to bring in best from the rural gems, However to balance urban students the ratio of 80:20 (Rural:Urban) was kept initially which enabled many rural students to prosper the higher class education without paying a single penny of fee, this is the most important thing in Navodaya that the student need not have to pay a single penny fee for his entire schooling. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas - Overview LIFE AT JNV Migration/Mini-Migration To facilitate national integration and to make students aware of other parts of India, selected students of class 9th are exchanged with those of a distant JNV for one year. These students join their original JNV to continue their studies in class 10th. Success of JNV student Once you get admission, you are allowed to study till 12th standard in CBSE mode of education. The discipline, sports and other activities along with the education will make them tough individuals and everyone will become good citizen of India. There are so many people who settled as Doctors, Engineers, Software professionals, Doctorates, Lawyers, Police officers. But their motto is same. They are PROUD to be a student of Navodaya. Cluster Meets The clusters meets will happen once in 2 years or some times the schedule will vary as per their convenience. Here all the telented sportsmen will come from different JNVs will compete and the people who won in this competetions will go to Regional Level competions and from there, who got cleared will go to National Level Competitions. ALUMNI Alumni from JNV schools from across India work in successful positions in India and internationally. JNV schools have been to a large extent successful in their original aim to find talented students from India's many districts and provide them with a well-rounded education, setting them up for success later in life. Like other better known educational initiatives by the Government of India (IITs, IIMs, etc.), this foray into school education also promises to yield long term success.
