Japanese Battleship Fuji




Constructed by the Thames Iron Works and Armstrong Whitworth the Fuji (富士) and Yamashima were constructed between 1894-1896 and were commissioned in 1897.

Yamashima was sunk during the Russo-Japanese War . After striking a mine near Port Arthur , she capsized during a tow to Sasebo, Japan on 15 May , 1904 .

Fuji took part in the Battle Of Tsushima , as well as serving during WWI. Converted to a training ship during the 1920s she was sunk by an air attack in July 1945.

Armament: 4x12 in guns (2x2), 14x6 in guns, 20x12 pdr guns, 4x3 pdr guns, 5x18 in torpedo tubes

Machinery: Triple expansion steam engines, 14,500 ihp with 2 shafts producing 18 knots.

Armour: 18 in belt, 2.5 in deck, Casemates up to 6 in, Conning tower up to 14 in.
