Japanese Aircraft Carrier Amagi




Second vessel of the ''Unryu'' Class , the ''Amagi'' was a lightly built carrier design based on the ''Hiryu'' Class . She carried around 65 aircraft and also carried a secondary armament of twelve 5" DP guns. Diplacing 17,150 tons, she was capable of 32+ knots.

The ''Amagi'', named for the town of Amagi, Fukuoka , was built in 1944 , but was never deployed apart from defensive anti-aircraft action in Kure, and was eventually sunk at Kure Naval Base on July 27 , 1945 . She was refloated in late 1946 and scrapped the following year.
