Information About

International Air Distress

Older Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELTs) transmit on 121.5 in case of impact. Satellites would alert local personnel to the emergency, and the beacon would allow search and rescue to find the scene of the accident faster. Newer ELTs transmit on 406 MHz, and the 121.5 versions are being phased out.

This frequency is also known as GUARD.
