Information and Communications University (ICU)(http://www.icu.ac.kr )-Korea, for ICU was established 8 years ago. In sum, ICU is Korea’s most prominent IT (information technology) institution and is on its way to becoming one of the world’s most regarded institution in the field of IT. Research Achievements - ICU-Samsung Joint Research Center, Samsung Electronics’s one and only joint research center with a higher-education institution in Korea - Largest number of research centers of excellence recognized by the Korean government among Korean universities 4 IT Research Centers, sponsored by Korean Ministry of Information and Communication 2 Engineering Research Centers, sponsored by Korean Ministry of Science and Technology Each of these research centers, chosen through steep competition, receives approx. $1 million per year for 10 years - Largest amount of research funds per faculty member ($337,000 as of 2004) among Korean universities International Collaboration - ICU chosen as the 7th Auto Lab, headquartered in MIT, USA - Dual master’s degree programs in software engineering with Carnegie Mellon University, USA Financial Support - All the undergraduate students receive tuition waiver - All the graduate students, including international students, supported through research assistantships, government scholarships, and company (Samsung Electronics) scholarships Career after Graduation - 100% employment or advanced to further studies – 703 graduates have all been employed or pursuing advanced degrees, mostly at ICU - Industry 47%, advanced studies 26%, research institutes 20%, etc. ICU’s Vision - To become the educational/research center for IT manpower in Asia and the Pacific by 2007 - To become a world-class IT institution by 2012 |
