The Industrial Design Excellence Awards is a program sponsored by BusinessWeek and IDSA (Industrial Designers Society of America), and "is dedicated to fostering business and public understanding of the importance of industrial design Excellence to the quality of life and economy" (quote: http://www.idsa.org/idea/idea2005/). The IDEA winners are honored at annual ceremonies (i.e. IDSA 2005 National Conference in Washington D.C.). The judging criteria are the following five:
