HISTORY The predecessor of ICBC (Asia) is the Union Bank (友聯銀行), founded in Hong Kong in 1964 , and traded on Hong Kong Stock Exchange ( since 1973 ). Union Bank was acquired by ICBC and renamed ICBC (Asia) on August 21 , 2000 . The Hong Kong operations of ICBC was injected to ICBC (Asia) in July 2001 . On April 30 , 2004 , ICBC (Asia) acquired the retailing business (but not the wholesaling business) of Fortis Bank Asia HK from Fortis . Fortis Bank Asia was renamed Belgian Bank , and became a wholly-owned subsidiary of ICBC (Asia). On October 10 , 2005 , all branches of Belgian Bank were completely rebranded as ICBC (Asia). Following the finish of the merger, ICBC (Asia) has become the sixth largest bank on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, from its former position of tenth. SEE ALSO
