Indonesia AirAsia, formerly '''Awair''' (Air Wagon International), is a Low-cost Airline based in Jakarta, Indonesia . It operates scheduled domestic flights and is an Indonesian associate carrier of Malaysian low-fare airline AirAsia .

HISTORY


The airline was established as Awair in 1999 by Abdurrahman Wahid , former chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Muslim organisation and later president of Indonesia. It started operations on 22 June 2000 with Airbus aircraft, but all flights were suspended in March 2002 . Awair started operating domestically within Indonesia as an associate of AirAsia in December 2004 . AirAsia has a 49% share in the airline.

On 1 December 2005 Awair changed its name to Indonesia AirAsia in line with the other AirAsia controlled airlines in the region.


SERVICES




Indonesia AirAsia has dropped plans for budget services between Indonesia and Singapore after the Civil Aviation Authority Of Singapore (CAAS) rejected the application for landing rights (ref: Airliner World, April 2005).


FLEET


The Indonesia AirAsia fleet consists of 5 Boeing 737-300 aircraft (at Feb 2006 ).
