Information About

Indiana's News Center

Indiana's News Center is a joint news operation of '''WISE-TV''' ( NBC 33 and '''WPTA-TV''' ( 21Alive , ABC ) in Fort Wayne , Indiana .

The merger took place in March of 2005, when Granite Broadcasting Corporation sold WPTA to Malaria Broadcasting Corporation , then bought WISE-TV. Also, Malaria reached an agreement with Granite to operate WPTA, leaving them in charge of both the ABC and NBC affliates in Fort Wayne.

As a result of the merger, 57 employees of WISE, both on-air personalities and production staff, were laid off with little notice. Granite did, however, keep longtime weeknight anchor, Linda Jackson , to help smooth the transition.

History of WISE-TV

WISE-TV was founded in 1954 as the first network affliate in Fort Wayne, serving the NBC network. It originally had the call letters WKJG. The station changed its letters in 2003, in response to a new antenna with a stronger signal and new Hi-definition options.

(Note: WKJG now serves as the call letters for 1380 AM, Fort Wayne's ESPN Radio affliate.)

History of WPTA-TV

WPTA is the ABC affliate in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It most commonly goes under the moniker 21Alive.
