The only difference between the NDM1 class and the ZDM1 is the gauge. NDM1s are 2ft gauge, the ZDM1s are 2ft 6inch gauge. Conversion between gauges (and thus Classes) is possible and has been carried out on three locomotives. Each locomotive consists of three sections, Two identical 4 wheeled power units with a cab suspended between the two. They are articulated in the same way as the Swiss electric locomotives (a design also used in India) known as a Crocodile . |
