Indian Botanical Garden




The Indian Botanical Garden was founded in 1786 beside the Hooghly River in Shibpur , Howrah .It is spread across an area of 273 Acre s. It is the country's largest and oldest Botanical Garden.

The major tourist attraction of the garden is a 250-year-old , 98 feet high, Banyan tree ( Ficus Bengalhensis ) with 600 arial roots and the largest girth of any banyan tree ever recorded (1300 feet).The garden contains 12,000 living perennial plants and over two and half million driedout plant specimens in the herbarium, collected from all over the world.
