The Index Group was a management consulting firm in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It was founded by Thomas P. Gerrity . The firm was acquired by Computer Sciences Corporation in about 1989 . The original firm was Index Systems, Inc. founded in 1969 by Gerrity and two MIT friends. Index Systems grew from Gerrity's MIT Sloan School Of Management Doctoral dissertation on Decision Support Systems and was originally funded by First National Bank of Chicago. Written in PL/1, the system was called Portfolio Management System. Initially Index Systems was a boutique consulting firm, building systems for primarily financial services companies. In the early 1980 s Index Systems began to spin out various parts of their business, including Excellerator, an early CASE (Computer Aided Software Engineering) tool from Index Technology, Inc. |
