He started his career with his hometown club of Rotherham as a trainee before signing pro in 1993 . He made over 130 appearances for them and scored 6 goals. He was the sold to Chesterfield for £100,000 in 1997 . He spent 5 years there making over 200 appearances. He moved to Wigan Athletic in 2002 and became a key player in the side that won promotion to the Premiership . He never got the cance to play in the Premiership but was more than happy to take a step down to help Nottingham Forest try to get out of League One , in a £350,000 deal, with his team-mate Nicky Eaden who went to Forest on a free transfer. He never scored in a Wigan shirt but he is the current leading top scorer for Nottingham Forest as he reached the target he set with 10 goals. Shortly after he arrived at the City Ground he was quickly made team captain after Gareth Taylor put on a string of poor performances and was dropped from the first team. He has made more appearances for Forest so far this season than any other player on the team and has been much more successful on Trent-Side than his Wigan counterpart Nicky Eaden. Breckin has be incredibly solid at the center of defence while pairing up with andother strong defender in the form of Wes Morgan and has been the most consistent performer for Forest in the 2005-2006 season. At the end of April 2006, he was crowned Nottingham Forest's Player of the Year, when he got an incredible 42% of the votes from Forest fans. Nicky Southall came second with 18% and Nathan Tyson came third with 14%. |
