The Husum Sulfate Paper Mill is the main employer in town, and has been since it was founded in 1919 by Mo Och Domsjö AB ("MoDo" for short, see MODO Hockey ). M-real Corporation of Finland (then known as Metsä-Särla) acquired the mill in 2000. Situated close to both the ocean and the mountains, and with a river running through town, Husum is very close to the regional airport, and a new station for the Botniabanan is currently being built at the center of town.
