Hunter Mountain is a Ski Resort in the northern Catskill Mountains of New York State consisting of three separate mountains. There are 53 trails and 11 lifts with a vertical drop of 1600 feet. The west peak is dominated by Double Black Diamond s. Because of the nature of snow and skiing in the northeast, these runs often become virtual ice sheets. The eastern portions of the ski area are populated with mostly blues and greens, which range from intermediate to easy. Hunter has over 60 miles of snow making pipe, with a snow making of 40 tons of snow per minute. In a typical season they convert half a billion gallons of water into snow. Since its inception, Hunter has been at the forefront of snow-making technology. It was the first to have total snow-making coverage for the entire mountain, as well as the first resort with automated snow-making. Its original owners, the Slutzky brothers, were actually the inventors of the snow making machine.
