The township lay on high moorland around Blackstone Edge , containing the settlements of Todmorden , Walsden , Littleborough , Wardle , Smallbridge and parts of Rochdale . Between 1889 and 1894 the parish was split up; the area around Todmorden and Walsden being incorporated into the West Riding of Yorkshire, and the rest being finally divided between Wardle, Milnrow and Littleborough Urban Districts and Rochdale Borough .
