One of eight San Diego catchers behind the plate in 2003-04, Baseball America ranked Quintero number 19 in the Padres farm system. He made two trips to the Padres in 2004, starting 19 games. He went 9-for-18 in his first five games after his first recall from Triple-A Portland Beavers , on June 21. Quintero was sent to the Houston Astros in April 2005.
