Humberston, or Humberstone as the village was known at first, takes its name from a large Boulder , the Humber Stone, which was deposited on the site of the village during the last ice age. This boulder can still be seen at the entrance to the village library. The "e" at the end of the name was later dropped, to avoid confusion with other places of the same name. The oldest and tallest building in Humberston is St Peter's Church, the tower of which is over seven hundred years old. PLACES OF INTEREST A place of interest is the man-made lake which is central to Cleethorpes Country Park off North Sea Lane. Cleethorpes Country Park is home to Canada Geese and many other types of wild birds. Humberston is also home to a huge holiday caravan park known as Thorpe Park or, more traditionally, Humberston Fitties . |
