Humberside Airport is situated in North Lincolnshire , England , 10 miles west of Grimsby and 15 miles south of Kingston Upon Hull , England on the A18 . It is a small international Airport , owned by the Manchester Airport Group who also own Manchester International Airport .
The airport faces strong competition for flights from nearby Nottingham East Midlands Airport and the newly opened Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield .

HISTORY

The airport was previously a Royal Air Force base, RAF Kirmington , opened in 1941 during World War II . The site was abandonded after the war in 1945, and lay unused until 1974 when the local council re-opened the site as Kirmington Airport. When the local area was renamed Humberside following local government re-organisation in England, the name was changed to Humberside Airport.
