Human-animal Hybrid

Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research: human cloning in all its forms, creating or implanting embryos for experiments, creating human-animal hybrids, and buying, selling, or patenting human embryos. Human life is a gift from our Creator - and that gift should never be discarded, devalued or put up for sale.

It briefly caught on as a Bushism because the phrase appears to be Oxymoron ic in that a human ''is'' at least scientifically an animal. It should be noted that George Bush is a Christian and according to Christian Theology humans were created, by God, and their purpose, according to the Bible , is to "rule over the animals of the field, and the plants of the earth." Therefore, in the sense that they are "caretakers" of all animals and plants, they are outside the animal kingdom, theologically. So, for Christians who subscribe to President Bush's version of Creationism , the phrase "human-animal hybrids," is a completely accurate description of the fusion of human DNA, cells, or cell structure, with those of supposely non-sentient beasts (generically referred to as "animals").

Bush in fact did not coin the phrase "animal-human hybrid". It has been used in scientific terms for a quite a while. For instance, it was used to describe an experiment in 2003 where Chinese scientists at the Shanghai Second Medical University successfully fused human cells with rabbit eggs, on January 25, 2005 in a National Geographic article.2
