Hugh B. Brown




Born in Granger, Utah , he was ordained a member of the church's Quorum Of The Twelve Apostles on April 10 , 1958 to replace Adam S. Bennion , who had passed away the previous February. He was called as Third Counselor to President David O. McKay June 22 , 1961 . He was called as Second Counselor to the same October 12 , 1961 when the First Counselor, J. Reuben Clark passed away. He was ordained First Counselor to the same in 1963 when the First Counselor Henry D. Moyle died. After President David O. McKay died on January 8 , 1970 , he returned to the Quorum, where he remained until his passing on December 2 , 1975 .

After his passing, David B. Haight was called to the quorum.


HISTORY

Brown moved to Spring Coulee , Alberta , Canada with his family when he was sixteen. He also served as a major in the Canadian military during the First World War . In 1921 , he was called as president of the Lethbridge Alberta Stake, which included all of Alberta north of the Lethbridge Airport and the Northwest Territories . During the years of 19371940 and 19441946 , he served as president of the British Mission. In 1953 , he was called to be an assistant to the Twelve where he stayed for five years until his call as an apostle.


PUBLISHED WORKS

He was the author of four books, and two compilations were published of his writings.
