THE ROGER HOWARD INCIDENT

On March 8 , 2005 , the students of Hudson High School held a walkout in protest of the Hudson City School District's Board of Education decision to not renew the contract of the head principal Roger Howard, whom many of the students and teachers respected. The Hudson Police claimed the initially peaceful protest was out of hand when they justified their use of force against the students. Two students were arrested, and several were Pepper-sprayed . The Hudson Police also called assistance from six neighboring police departments as well as the Summit County, Ohio Special Response/SWAT Team. Some students subsequently joined forces with parents, teachers, and other community members to create two political groups fighting the Board of Education. In the following election of November 2005 , three new board members, Douglas Whipple, Nancy Terry, and Karen Capone-Sheer defeated incumbents Andrew Duff, James Antes, and James Hackney.

The Current Board of Education consists of President Bruce Hubach, Stephen Funk, Nancy Terry, Karen Capone-Sheer, and Douglas Whipple.
