Information About

Hounslow Town Tube Station

In 1886 a new station on the Hounslow Barracks line called Heston-Hounslow was opened and the service to Hounslow Town was withdrawn. 1903 saw the re-opening of Hounslow Town when the Metropolitan District Railway took over the line. Its life was short, however, as in May 1909 Heston-Hounslow station on the main line was renamed Hounslow East and the old station closed for good. Doubling of the remaining line westwards from the old junction proceeded in stages, being completed by December 1926.

From 1933 both District and Picadilly Line services ran to Hounslow West until District Line services were withdrawn in 1964 . The line has since been extended into Heathrow Airport . Today, nothing remains of the old Hounslow Town station, but the site is now occupied by Hounslow Bus Station (operated by London United Busways), and a sign in front of the bus station gives a brief history of what used to be Hounslow Town Underground Station.
