Hong Kong Broadband Network ('''HKBN''', Traditional Chinese: 香港寬頻; Simplified: 香港宽频; Pinyin: xiānggǎng kuānpín) is one of the most eminent Broadband Internet Service Provider s (ISPs) in Hong Kong and a wholly-owned subsidiary of City Telecom (H.K.) Limited and a Broadband Telecommunication Enterprise in Hong Kong . The Network connection speed it provides ranges from 1.5 to 1000 Mbit/s. It uses underground Fibre Optic Cable or Wireless transmission media to provide services. Apart from Internet access service, HKBN began providing broadband Telephone service and pay- Television service in Hong Kong in 2003 and 2004, respectively. It also provides service for the 2b (2nd generation) Broadband Phone . SERVICES PROVIDED HKBN provides numerous services, which include:
ESTABLISHMENT OF HKBN Hong Kong Broadband Network was established in 1999. It is entirely subsidized by The City Telecom (H.K.) Limited ('CTI')(Traditional Chinese: 城市電訊; Simplified: 城市电讯; Pinyin: chéngshì diàn xìn), a telecommunications group established in 1992 by Ricky WONG Wai Kay (Traditional Chinese: 王維基; Simplified: 王维基; Pinyin: wáng wéi jī), who engaged in the provision of telecommunications and fixed network services worldwide. RECENT AWARDS On September 28 , 2005 , HKBN received the ''Global Entrepolis 2005 Award'' (GES) in Singapore . The GES Award was given by The Asian Wall Street Journal and the Economic Development Board of Singapore , which honors Asia's emerging technopreneur that possesses commercial potential to be an industry leader and applies technology most innovatively to the business every year. MARKETING STRATEGY In support of the HKBN b1000 launch, Liu Xiang, China's first male Olympic track and field gold medalist, was invited to feature in the company's recent branding campaign. "The background of Liu Xiang (Traditional Chinese: 劉翔; Simplified: 刘翔; Pinyin: liú xiáng) {Link without Title} parallels our company development, with the theme 'dare to dream, dare to do and strike your best'. BROADBAND INTERNET SERVICE HKBN allots 10 Mbit/s, 100 Mbit/s and 1000 Mbits/s of bi-directional transmission broadband Internet access services through a network made up of Optical Fibre and high grade Category 5 Cable s (CAT-5E). In June 2002, Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited built up the largest Metro Ethernet network in the world and confirmed by Cisco Systems . This IP network has already covered 60% of the market, that is, approximately 1.2 million families in Hong Kong until the end of 2002. HKBN also provides value-added services—for instance, newsgroups and personal webpages. HOME TELEPHONE DIAL-UP SERVICE HKBN provides local dial-up service. Additional services are also provided upon request (with additional surcharges).
BROADBAND TELEPHONE SERVICE Broadband telephone service is provided through the broadband network with a broadband phone box, which supports Internet access and telephone service at the same time.

BROADBAND DIGITAL TELEVISION By making use of the Internet Protocol (IP) network platform, which is facilitated by the advanced Metro Ethernet technology, HKBN launched Hong Kong Broadband Network Digital Television ('HKBN Digital TV') (originally Hong Kong Broadband Network Television) in August 2003.
HKBN Digital TV aims at the Chinese language market. Additionally, it attempts to provide pay-TV service at a price lower than the other pay-TV service providers. Apart from carrying non-local channels, it also carries local and self-produced channels.

The HKBN News 24/7 channel is a self-produced channel by HKBN which distributes local and non-local news 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Current Affairs Channel provides both community information and current affairs. Every Wednesday, it broadcasts regular meetings of the Legislative Council and television programs produced by the Radio Television of Hong Kong ( RTHK ).
This English news channel reports global news from an Asian viewpoint.
The Hong Kong Sports Channel is a combination of local sports news and competitions, including Inter-University and Inter-School competitions. A digital TV guide is mailed to pay-TV subscribers on a monthly basis. The guide is composed of film introductions, drama introductions, cartoons, life and entertainment and TV broadcast schedules. IDD SERVICE HKBN provides IDD0030 international calling service to both land-line and mobile phones. Free minutes are available to the International Call Forwarding Service or IDD service. In addition, the charge is based on 6-second increments. A complimentary Hong Kong ring tone is also available. SPECIALIZED INTEGRATED CORPORATION NETWORK HKBN also provides specific network services for corporations, including: Business Live Service Internet Services Mobile Services LICENSES HKBN acquired a Fixed Telecommunications Network Services license in 2000. Since then, it became one of the major local network service providers offering both local telephone service and 56k Dial-up internet service. In 2002, it successfully established a Metro Ethernet IP network and activated broadband Internet service. As an important milestone in its networking infrastructure business and history of expansion, it officially launched its pay Digital TV service in August, 2003.
