Information About

Hobart Radio International

HISTORY

Hobart Radio International first started in October 2004 as a music radio station. Shortwave radio here in the Southern Hemisphere has been bombarded with mostly news and current affairs stations.

The aim was to ''bring music'' back to shortwave, but the European audience had plenty of music stations, so in May 2005 the station started documentary programmes on countries, number stations and other issues such as speech disorders and has been very sucesful.

Hobart didn't have a voice on shortwave and this small quiet island was unknown to others and often mistaken for the country Tanzania - ''the feedback from listeners is fantastic'' says the manager Robb Wise.

COVERAGE AREA

Hobart Radio International is able to be heard in areas where most people have shortwave radios:

South America, North America and Europe. Of course it is possible to tune in anywhere in the world and possibly even in Australia as propagational effects can make signals go very long distances.

FUTURE

The station plans to keep broadcasting in anyway possible if it be via an internet radio stream to keep up with technology, or the old fashioned way of shortwave radio.

They plan to produce documentary programmes covering issues like Religion & Philosophy, Global Warming, The Future of Shortwave, Countries, Cultures and UFO's.

Each year the station has a birthday show dedicated to saying what to expect in the next year.
