The first ''Active'', launched in 1758, was a 28-gun Sixth-rate captured in 1778 by the French off San Domingo during the American Revolutionary War .

The second ''Active'', launched in 1776, was a 14-gun Brig-sloop captured in 1780 by the Americans off New York .

The third ''Active'' was a 12-gun Cutter captured in 1779 by the French cutter ''Le Mutin'' in the English Channel .

The fourth ''Active'' was a 32-gun Fifth-rate , launched in 1780 and wrecked in 1796 on the Saint Lawrence River .

The fifth ''Active'' was a 14-gun brig-sloop listed in 1782.

The sixth ''Active'' was a 38-gun fifth-rate launched in 1799, renamed ''Argo'' in 1833 and broken up in 1860.

The seventh ''Active'' was a 36-gun fifth-rate launched in 1845, renamed ''Tyne'' in July 1867 and ''Durham'' in November 1867, and sold in 1908.

The eighth ''Active'' , launched in 1869, was a ''Volage''-class iron screw Corvette , sold in 1906.

The eleventh ''Active'' (F171) , launched in 1972, was a Type 21 Frigate . She served in the Falklands War . She was sold to the Pakistan Navy in 1994 and renamed ''Shah Jehan'' .
