Most wines produced are flavorful reds made from the Syrah Grape (also known as Shiraz in Australia, which has popularized the variety) that can age over forty years. They are undrinkable for years because of very high levels of tannic acid, which acts as a preservative. Whites are produced from Marsanne with some Roussanne . Vin De Paille or ''Straw Wine'' is also produced in this region. It is surrounded by the Crozes-Hermitage AOC at its foot, which produces similar wines. SEE ALSO |
