Information About

Health Impact Assessment

It is intended to produce a set of evidence based recommendations that are designed to maximise the positive health effects of projects or policies, and to minimise the negative health effects. HIA is a decision making tool.

Three forms of HIA exist: Desktop HIA, Rapid HIA and Comprehensive HIA. Assessments can be prospective, concurrent or retrospective. Prospective is preferred as it allows for the maximum practical opportunity to influence decisions and subsequent health impacts.

Leading guidance to HIA comes from the commonly used Merseyside Guidelines to HIA. Further information and guidance is available @ {Link without Title}

HIA forms part of investigations into Spatial Epidemiology
