GEOGRAPHY


According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 7.3 Km&2 (2.8 Mi&2 ). 7.3 km&2 (2.8 mi&2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. The ZIP Code of Hazel Park is 48030. The current mayor of Hazel Park is Jack Lloyd, who is also the head of the Deli Department at the Hazel Park Farmer Jack Grocery Store.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 18,963 people, 7,284 households, and 4,669 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 2,596.3/km&2 (6,728.4/mi&2). There were 7,612 housing units at an average density of 1,042.2/km&2 (2,700.9/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 91.62% White , 1.62% African American , 0.90% Native American , 1.81% Asian , 0.02% Pacific Islander , 0.59% from Other Races , and 3.43% from two or more races. 2.08% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 7,284 households out of which 33.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.6% were Married Couples living together, 16.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% were non-families. 28.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.21.

In the city the population was spread out with 27.7% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 18.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $37,045, and the median income for a family was $43,584. Males had a median income of $33,063 versus $24,362 for females.
