Information About

Harris Beach

Harris Beach started in Rochester in 1856 as Harris & Ives, by Edward Harris and Henry Ives.

Harris Beach represented Xerox Corporation in securing some of their first Patents on Photocopiers , although they have very few Patent Attorney s today.

Notable members of Harris Beach include Hugh L. Carey , former governor of New York.

Harris Beach is the second largest law firm based in upstate New York, after Nixon Peabody , which is also based in Rochester and also has offices throughout upstate New York (although it has also expanded nationally). Major lawsuits in upstate New York often pit Harris Beach and Nixon Peabody against each other.

Harris Beach opened its New York City office in 1996 . It formerly had its New York City office in the World Trade Center , on the 85th floor of World Trade Center 2 . Their office was directly in the impact area of United Airlines Flight 175 in the September 11, 2001 Attacks . Three attorneys and two staffers for Harris Beach were killed in the attack. The attorneys were Joanne Flora Weil, 39; Mark A. Brisman, 34; and Andrew Steven Zucker, 27. The staffers were Irina Kolpakova, 37, a file clerk, and Sharon Cristina Millan Paz, 31, from Colombia , an office services coordinator.
