GEOGRAPHY Harper is located at 30°18'4" North, 99°14'36" West (30.301009, -99.243326). According to the United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 146.5 Km&2 (56.6 Mi&2 ). 146.5 km&2 (56.6 mi&2) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 1,006 people, 417 households, and 293 families residing in the CDP. The Population Density was 6.9/km&2 (17.8/mi&2). There were 536 housing units at an average density of 3.7/km&2 (9.5/mi&2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.73% White , 0.10% African American , 0.80% Native American , 0.10% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 2.39% from Other Races , and 0.89% from two or more races. 4.97% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 417 households out of which 30.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.4% were Married Couples living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.5% were non-families. 27.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.93. In the CDP the population was spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 27.5% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.1 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $31,776, and the median income for a family was $39,013. Males had a median income of $26,900 versus $23,421 for females. The Per Capita Income for the CDP was $15,318. 17.3% of the population and 10.8% of families were below the Poverty Line . 22.5% of those under the age of 18 and 10.7% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
