Haplogroup L2 (mtdna)




Haplogroup L2 is native to Sub-Saharan Africa , where it is present in approximately one third of all people. It is believed to have arisen approximately 70,000 years ago from the line of Haplogroup L1 .


SUBDIVISIONS

L2 has four main subgroups: L2a, L2b, L2c, and L2d.


Haplogroup L2a

The most common L2 subgroup, L2a, is also the most common haplogroup among African American s.
