Information AboutHaplogroup L1 (mtdna) |
|
Haplogroup L1 is found in West and Central Sub-Saharan Africa . It is especially common among the Khoisan People . However haplogroup L1 has special significance for all living humans. The earliest mitochondrial lineage was Haplogroup L0 , which arose with Mitochondrial Eve . However, the L0 lineage is Extinct , and all existing human haplogroups are descended from haplogroup L1. Among these descendants are the African haplogroups L2 and L3 , the latter of which gave rise to all non-African haplogroups. Haplogroup L1 is believed to have first appeared in Africa approximately 150,000 to 170,000 years ago. SEE ALSO EXTERNAL LINKS
