HISTORY In 1929 the Hampton Development Company was formed and the land around the Hampton Mansion site was subdivided, creating the Hampton Community. The Hampton Mansion remained in the Ridgely family until it became a National Park in 1946 . GEOGRAPHY Hampton is located at 39°24'60" North, 76°34'59" West (39.416656, -76.583027). According to the United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 14.8 Km&2 (5.7 Mi&2 ). 14.8 km&2 (5.7 mi&2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 5,004 people, 1,900 households, and 1,578 families residing in the CDP. The Population Density was 338.4/km&2 (876.2/mi&2). There were 1,935 housing units at an average density of 130.8/km&2 (338.8/mi&2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 91.41% White , 1.48% African American , 0.00% Native American , 6.00% Asian , 0.02% Pacific Islander , 0.22% from Other Races , and 0.88% from two or more races. 1.48% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 1,900 households out of which 29.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.3% were Married Couples living together, 5.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.9% were non-families. 14.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 2.89. In the CDP the population was spread out with 21.9% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 19.3% from 25 to 44, 30.1% from 45 to 64, and 24.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 48 years. For every 100 females there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.5 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $95,546, and the median income for a family was $100,240. Males had a median income of $75,518 versus $42,479 for females. The Per Capita Income for the CDP was $43,850. 1.8% of the population and 0.4% of families were below the Poverty Line . 1.3% of those under the age of 18 and 2.6% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
