Halo Custom Edition (a.k.a. '''Halo CE''') is a free stand-alone expansion for '''' by Bungie Studios , which was ported to the PC by Gearbox Software . Halo CE was released by Gearbox as an unsupported add-on. To prevent confusion between Halo Custom Edition and Halo: Combat Evolved (which can both be expressed as Halo CE) the original version of Halo (Combat Evolved) is referred to as ''Halo PC''. FEATURES Halo Custom Edition has the ability to load and play user-created content and maps created with the '' Halo Editing Kit ''. Many custom levels have been created by dedicated members of the modding community and have been posted for download at a flotilla of websites. Halo CE does not include the original singleplayer missions as a play option, however custom singleplayer levels are currently in development by community members. COMMUNITY Several major modding communities have sprung up, each housing many solo mappers and mapping teams alike. Modders use the Halo Editing Kit (or its community-inspired counterpart, Halo Modding Tools, which arguably has the same functionality) to incorperate custom models, images, physics, and data into an easily distributed .MAP file. There are too many teams and maps to mention here, but they can be easily found on some of the websites in the Links section. Most of them are found at {Link without Title} The player base of Halo CE is rather small compared to that of Halo: Combat Evolved, and is thus a very tight-knit community, with several large Clans making up most of the players.
