Hadith Of Uthman's Modesty

NARRATION

Mubammad narrated that A'isha reported:
:'' Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) was lying in the bed in my apartment with his Thigh or his Shank uncovered that Abu Bakr sought permission to get in. It was given to him and he conversed in the same very state (the Prophet's thigh or shank uncovered).

:''Then ' Umar sought permission for getting in and it was given to him and he conversed in that very state.

:''Then ' Uthman sought permission for getting in; Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) sat down and he set right his clothes.

Mubammad said: I do not say that it happened on the same day.
:''He ('Uthman) then entered and conversed and as he went out, A'isha said: Abu Bakr entered and you did not stir and did not observe much care (in arranging your clothes), then 'Umar entered and you did not stir and did not arrange your clothes, then 'Uthman entered and you got up and set your clothes right, thereupon he (Muhammad) said: Should I not show modesty to one whom even the Angels show modesty.

MUSLIM VIEW

Sunni view

Sunni view this hadith as an evidence of Uthman's extraordinary qualities, and are known to quote it to that effect. It is included in Sahih Muslim , the second most trusted source of Sunni hadith. Som take this as evidence of the thighs not being a part of the male Awrah {Link without Title}

Shi'a view

Shia Muslims dismiss it as ''unauthentic'' late fabrication by the Bani Ummayad. Shi'a do not even beilve that the hadith was quoted by Aisha to being with, but was attributed to her by the fabricator.

Shi'a view this hadith as an example being contradictory to the '') than all other people combined. Shi'a view that those hurring in fabricating hadith for the first three Sunni Caliphs did so in a manner that they all ended up contradicting each other regarding who is the best.

Also, Shi'a view this hadith as detesteble, describing Muhammad as not even botheing to cover his Thigh s, a body part that is Awrah for men when receiving visitors, and stating that Uthman had more modesty than Muhammad.
