Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, also known as '''GGSIPU''', is an affiliating and teaching university established by the government of . The University is recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC) of India under section 12B of UGC Act.

The Indraprastha University, has affiliated more than 70 Institutes in Delhi and nearby areas which includes self-financing Institutes, Govt. Institutes, Centres of Learning & Education and University maintained Institutes which shall be running the programmes, strictly adhering to the norms and standards set by the University. The faculty consists of professionally qualified specialists in their respective areas. The University is presently situated at Kashmere Gate, Delhi (near ISBT) and is housed in the former campus of Delhi College Of Engineering . It plans to shift to the new campus land alloted by government of Delhi in Dwarka (West Delhi Campus) and Shahdara (East Delhi Campus) with ultra modern facilities . An emminent scholar and innovative person in Professor K.K. Aggarwal, the first Vice Chancellor of the University, proposes to develop the University into a centre of excellence comparable to the best in the world.

The University is one of the elite Indian universities offering only professional courses the admission to which is through entrance test and in some cases group dicussions and personal interviews. Although initially setup to ease the pressure on centrally funded University Of Delhi (DU), the IPU has come out of the DU sidekick attire and has emerged as a serious alternative to it, despite the fact that its entire induction rate is still around 25% of regular undergraduate intake of the University of Delhi and a miniscule 3-5% of the entire annual intake of DU.
