Title = Guardian of Piri
"Guardian of Piri" was the eighth episode of the first series of ''. It was directed by Charles Crichton . The ideas that drive the episode follow more or less directly from Weir's previous episode " Black Sun ", especially the ideological conflict between Kano and Carter based on Kano's belief in the system ( Modernity ) or Carter's belief in leadership, community and action ( Tradition ). Although it is not quite clear whether name of the planet Piri was meant as a reference to Piraeus , as some believe, the inhabitants of the planet wear Greek garments, and the epic idea of the episode is similar to the story of the Lotus-Eaters in the ninth book of the '' Odyssey ''. Like Aldous Huxley 's '' Brave New World '' (1932), homeostatis of modern society is built upon science, engineering and mindless consumerism, illustrated in the fashion model Fembot luring the Alphans to the planet and then Victor Bergman turning into the high-priest of the mindless congregation.
